Indigo is one of the oldest dyes used to colour fabric and was the only dye used to dye denim jeans. To dye a dark midnight blue, it some times takes more than 60 dips in the dye vat to achieve.
In this experience workshop, we will be sharing an overview of how the amazing indigo dye is prepared from plant to pigment and demonstrate simple resist dyeing methods such as bundling, clamping and tying with common objects to create patterns that are both visually exciting and professional. You will dye a 50cm by 50cm cotton square which can be framed up, used as a furoshiki wrap or even sewn into a cushion cover.
Duration: 90 minutes
Kids above 5 years old are welcomed to join with a participating adult. Please come dressed in clothes that you don’t mind getting some dye on. Aprons and gloves will be provided if you need them.
