We've designed and simplified our most popular workshop so kids can also get introduced to the magical indigo dye and shibori! Introducing our first natural indigo dyeing workshop for kids.
WHAT YOU'LL EXPECT
We will be sharing a quick overview of how the amazing indigo dye is prepared from plant to pigment. We will also give out a few indigo seeds so you and your child can try your hands at growing indigofera tinctoria at home.
We will demonstrate simple concepts of shibori and get your child inspired to create their very own pattern. Each child will practice dyeing on a couple of fabric swatches and finally a 50x50cm cotton fabric.
Shibori is a resist dyeing technique that has been used in many parts of the world dating as far back as 800CE. We are all familiar with widely popular tie-dye – shibori is similar but more methodical using a series of folds, clamps and ties to create one of a kind patterns.
Please bring an apron and be sure to dress in clothes that you don’t mind getting some dye on (just in case!). Gloves will be provided.
