Block printing looks easy, a carved block, some ink, press it on fabric — how hard can it be? Then you try to repeat that motif across a length of cloth, getting each print evenly inked and properly aligned and you start to understand why artisans spend years getting good at it.
Over three hours you'll learn the fundamentals of this age-old craft, design your own repeat pattern from single-unit motifs and print a bespoke scarf using hand-carved wooden blocks made. You won't master it in an afternoon (nobody does), but you'll leave understanding what you're looking at and with something you made yourself. Rest assured I'll be guiding you to design and print a beautiful scarf you'll wear for years.

The blocks you'll print with are hand-carved in India by family-owned workshops, by carvers who learned from the generation before them.
We work with the same makers for our block carving and rural weavers for our scarves since 2018, ensuring they are paid fairly and have their social and environmental wellbeing looked after, rather than maximising margin at their expense.
These crafts survive because people still choose to pay properly for them and part of why we run these workshops is so more people know the work still exists.

This workshop runs on request only, for groups of four or more.
We'll host you at our studio which seats six comfortably, or come to your venue for larger groups. Team bonding sessions, brand activation experiences, hen parties, or birthdays. We also offer custom block designs.

This workshop is recommended for adults. Children under 12 are welcome, but need one adult participating alongside them.
Class size is kept small and cosy on purpose, so everyone gets proper guidance rather than a demonstration from across the room.
