Indigo is one of the oldest dyes used to colour fabric and was the only dye used to dye denim jeans. To dye a dark midnight blue, it some times takes more than 60 dips in the dye vat to achieve.
We've designed this workshop for yarn lovers, fibre artists, crocheters/knitters and everyone who wants to learn about the mysterious indigo dye. In this class we will be sharing an overview of how the indigo dye is prepared from plant to pigment, you will also get to bring home a few indigo seeds to try your hands and growing the indigo plant.
This is a technical class where each participant will have to dye a total of 200g of organic cotton DK weight yarn in 5 shades of blue (4 x 50g), and 100g (2 x 50g) using shibori techniques in our resident 150L organic fermentation vat.
Please come dressed in clothes that you don’t mind getting some dye on. Aprons and gloves will be provided if you need them. Our studio indigo shibori workshop is limited to 6 participants so each individual gets quality guidance from our instructor.
